UPDATE: 6-13-23I received the

"*UPDATE: 6-13-23*I received the replacement knife about a week and a half ago and had the opportunity to use the knife twice since receiving it. The knife arrived within the time the Dalstrong CS rep, Aldrin, stated the package would arrive. Onto the knife; it's sharp! Razor sharp out of the box! I know the paper cut test is cliche amongst the knife enthusiast groups, but with just the paper cut test alone, the 2 knives were like night and day. The replacement knife not only was able to cut paper easily, it cleanly shaved paper into really fine slivers. The final test came in cutting cold smoked salmon into sashimi slices. The Gladiator Series yanagi cut the sashimi slices in one smooth stroke. Just for S&G's, I took out the defective yanagi (more on this later) and attempted to cut a slice of sashimi; I wrecked the fish. I couldn't get a clean cut and aborted the cut midway through the slice. It took a couple slices from the replacement yanagi to get back clean sashimi cuts. In summary, the knife is sharp out of the box!Now, I ordered my yanagiba through Dalstrong. com. As mentioned in my previous review, it was shipped from an Amazon warehouse. I contact Dalstrong directly regarding my defective knife, and they resolved the issue very quickly. One other thing I noticed about the replacement knife was the packaging. My original knife only came in the magnetic box with the knife, sheath, and a welcome insert. That's it. The replacement knife came with the packaging shrink wrapped, a sleeve over the magnetic box, the knife and sheath, a Welcome insert, a How to care for your knife insert, Dalstrong products catalog, and a Gladiator pin. This leads me to believe that the original knife I received was an Amazon return that was not processed properly. Meaning, Amazon returned the knife back to the shelf instead of returning it to the vendor. I've read through other Amazon reviews where the users' experience was similar to mine; they received a defective blade and it was replaced with a sharp knife. When I contact Dalstrong CS, they let me keep the defective knife. I thought it was to save on return shipping costs. Now that I think about it all, I think Dalstrong was trying to keep the defective knives off the shelves. I'm not sure how Amazon processes returns, but when I worked in electronics retail, we had to test products that got returned to determine if they were defective or not, and can go back on the shelf, or get returned to the vendor. A knife that can't cut should have been RTV'd. If you've read this far, the point of that last paragraph is to encourage customers to not just angrily rate a product with 1 star. Contact Dalstrong CS and/or Amazon CS depending how the Dalstrong product was purchased. You may be genuinely surprised how a proper company will back ALL their products!*UPDATE: 5-30-23*Before writing this review, I contacted Dalstrong CS via Dalstrong dot com. After hitting the submit button, I received a reply from Dalstrong CS apologizing for my disappointment in their product. This was less than an hour after I contact them. Given that it was a holiday weekend, I did not expect a response until today. After a few email exchanges, and video proof that the knife was not able to slice paper, a replacement was processed and shipped to me. Furthermore, the Dalstrong CS rep informed me of why my product was shipped from Amazon instead of from their own warehouses. Long story short, it's so that buyers from around the world can receive their orders quicker. I've upped the star rating to 3-stars based on Customer Service Satisfaction alone. I will provide another update once I received the replacement knife. *ORIGINAL REVIEW*-I ordered the Dalstrong Gladiator Series Yanagiba directly from Dalstrong dot com. The knife was shipped through Amazon Logistics; I guess this means I can review it here. Had I ordered the item through Amazon. com instead of direct from the manufacturer, I could have used my Prime membership to receive the knife faster. Strike one. --The knife is dangerously dull. It's a sushi knife which needs to be razor sharp in order for it to be used. I cannot use this knife without sharpening it first. Strike 2. Is this standard practice for shipping knives?--I was hoping to use the yanagiba to slice some fish for sashimi this weekend. That's not going to happen. I've sent an email to dalstrong. Let's hope Dalstrong CS pulls through. --So disappointed :(-"
