What is Scandinavian Super Steel?
The Barbarian Series is crafted with a very high-quality Swedish steel called 14C28N. This steel is commonly used in high-quality knife blades and outdoor tools and offers several advantages. It’s durable and withstands wear and tear well, making it ideal for frequent use. Unlike other tough steels, 14C28N can be sharpened to a very fine edge, and achieve a high-level of sharpness which is essential for precision. It’s the ultimate balance between refined sharpness and ultra-tough durability.
The description said the blade is “stone-washed” and “titanium-nitride coated”. What does that mean?
These are two special processes that we added to the Barbarian Series to provide several additional performance advantages to the knife. They also give it that unique, raw aesthetic. Titanium-nitride coating is a process that is applied to the surface of the blade using physical vapor deposition (PVD) technology. Then, we stone wash each blade to give it a worn, textured appearance. The process involves tumbling the blade in a drum containing abrasive materials. The result? A blade with exceptional hardness & excellent wear resistance, both advantageous properties that extend the overall life of your knife.
Does this steel require special care?
No! Ease of maintenance is one of the reasons we chose this steel for a knife long intended for serious, dirty work. It has high corrosion resistance and cleans easily with warm, soapy water.
What is the blade thickness?
The Barbarian Series 8” chef knife and the 12” Slicing & Carving knife are each approximately 2.5mm thick. This may vary slightly, since all Dalstrong knives are finished carefully by hand. The Barbarian Series Obliterator Cleaver is much thicker at 6mm. This heavy-duty cleaver provides massive chopping power.
What is the cutout in the blade for?
This cut out helps to balance and lighten the knife. By removing some of the steel, we can provide a better handling experience.
What is the handle made from?
The Barbarian Series handle is constructed of stabilized wood. We gave it a chiseled wood-look texture to match the rugged blade design.
Does it come with a sheath?
Yes. All Barbarian Series knives include a perfect-fit leather sheath. Keep your knives protected at home or on the go.
