What steel is this knife series made from?

Most Gladiator Series blades are made from German X50CRMOV15 Stainless Steel (also known as 1.4116 steel). A popular steel in professional kitchens, it’s lauded for its long term reliability, durability, corrosion resistance, and ease of maintenance. While softer than high-end Japanese steels, German steel is far less prone to corrosion, chipping, and sharpens much more easily. 

Some more heavy-duty Gladiator Series knives (including the Venator, Obliterator, and Annihilator Cleaver), are made from 7CR17MOV Steel. We use this steel to engineer thicker, heavier blades that are equally resistant to impact, corrosion, wear and tear.

What material is the handle?

All Gladiator Series knife handles except those included in block sets are made from G10 (also known as Garolite). A high-pressure composite G10 handle is an industrial strength, premium material which provides an indestructible build that's both comfortable and reliable for prolonged use in any setting. Gladiator Series knife block set handles are made from ABS Polymer, a durable, non-porous material that withstands the toughest kitchen environments. This combination ensures each knife is built to last, even with long-term, daily use.

How sharp are the knives out of the box, and how easy are they to maintain?

Every knife comes with a razor-sharp 16-18° edge for effortless cutting. Maintenance is simple: regular honing with a honing rod and occasional sharpening will keep the knives performing like new for years to come.

How should I care for and maintain my knives?

To care for your knives, hand wash them with warm water and mild soap, then dry thoroughly before putting them back in the block. Avoid soaking the knives or placing them in the dishwasher, as this can cause damage over time.

How often will I need to sharpen my knives and how can I do it?

Depending on how often you use them, and the work you do with each, the frequency of sharpening is variable. However, the edge is conditioned to last and be sharpened easily at home.
