"I got this for my wife because she does most of the vegggie cutting and I go most of the meat cutting. She also likes to make her own kimchi and tries all sorts of weird roots and vegitables from the asian market, so I figured this would be a good one for her. I was right! She uses this almost every other day and I tried it last night to make some cucumber salad and pico. I love the weight of this knife and how well it handles. Im no pro- I'm hardly an at home cook, but I have no regrets spending what I did on this knife. I really like it."

Before I ordered, I

"Before I ordered, I was torn between this and the Dalstrong Valhalla nakiri. I ended up ordering this one even though a few reviews mentioned how heavy this was. I was surprised just how heavy it actually was. If you are just chopping a few veggies for dinner, this would be just fine and a pleasure to use. If you’re doing more prep (think cutting potatoes for the thanksgiving feast) I’d certainly reach for some other knife. This does get through the rind of a watermelon easily and I’d assume the same with squash. I just haven’t tried it myself on squashes yet. From what I can get from all my online perusing, this is way too heavy to truly be a nakiri and should probably be considered more like a cleaver but I don’t know if the metal would hold up to cleaver-like use. I am keeping it because I knew going into purchasing it that it would be hit or miss. The blade is beautiful and I do really appreciate how the handle feels both in grip and balance. If the knife were just a tad lighter as a whole this would be a much more comfortable knife for long periods of use."
